Alarm on Trunk Boot

Guard Alarm I:
Check control module programing to see that FUNCTIONS 6 and 8 are not set to SIGNAL PATTERN 1 (no output signal).

Sources of fault
Open-circuit in signal lead between trunk (boot) contact and alarm control module.
Short-circuit to supply in signal lead between trunk (boot) contact and alarm control module.
Open-circuit in door contact ground lead.
Fault in contact in trunk (boot).
Fault in alarm control module.

Fault-tracing starts with D1.

D1 Checking Trunk (boot) Light
Deactivate alarm.

Ignition off.

Open trunk (boot).
Set trunk (boot) light to 'trunk (boot)'.
Trunk (boot) light should come on.

4-door models:
Change locking unit to locked position by pushing catch in with a screwdriver.
Trunk (boot) light should go out.
(Reset catch to open position by pressing trunk (boot) door opener).

5-door models:
Close tailgate.
Luggage compartment light should go out.

If both settings are OK:
Check ground lead D2.

If either setting is incorrect:
Check courtesy light.
Try another trunk (boot) contact.

D2 Checking Ground Lead
Ignition off.

5-door models:
Open trunk (boot) lid.
Remove panel around door lock.

Disconnect the 8-pin connector from the door lock.
Connect an ohmmeter between the 8-pin connector position 8 (ground) and ground. Ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohm.

If reading is OK:
Check signal lead supply D3.

If reading is incorrect:
Check lead between trunk (boot) connector position 8 and ground point 31/11 for open-circuit as per WA3 (See Other Fault-Tracing Test). Deal with fault or replace lead.

D3 Checking signal lead supply
Ignition off.
Remove alarm control module (position 210/211).

Open trunk (boot) lid.
Switch oft luggage compartment light.

Connect a voltmeter to alarm relay plinth between position RH and position 31 (ground). Voltmeter should read less than 1 V.

If reading is OK:
Check signal lead resistance D4.

If reading is incorrect:
Check lead between trunk (boot) connector position 1 and alarm relay plinth position RH for short-circuit to supply as per WA5 (See Other Fault-Tracing Test). Deal with fault or replace lead.

D4 Checking Signal Lead Resistance

Ignition off.

Bridge trunk (boot) connector between position 1 and position 8 (ground).

Connect an ohmmeter to alarm relay plinth between position RH and position 31 (ground).
Ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohm.

If reading is OK:
Check trunk (boot) contact D5.

If reading is incorrect:
Check lead between trunk (boot) connector position 1 and alarm relay plinth position RH for open-circuit as per WA3 Other Fault-TracingDeal with fault or replace lead.

D5 Checking Trunk (boot) Contact

Test A:

Ignition off.

Remove bridge on trunk (boot) connector between position 1 and position 8 (ground). Replace trunk (boot) 8-pin connector.

Close trunk (boot).

Connect an ohmmeter to alarm relay plinth between position RH and position 31 (ground). Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance when trunk (boot) is closed.

Test B:
Ignition off.
Open trunk (boot) lid.
Switch off trunk (boot) light.

Reconnect ohmmeter to alarm relay plinth between position RH and position 31 (ground). Ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohm when trunk (boot) is open.

If settings are OK:
Try another alarm control module after fault-tracing.

Guard Alarm II:
Run control module self-test in Test Guard Alarm II (only) before replacing control module.

If any reading is incorrect:
Try another trunk (boot) contact.
