Noise From Glove Box
NOISE FROM THE GLOVEBOXA1
The glovebox lid rattles due to excessive play between the lid and the compartment frame Mostly affects cars with chassis numbers below:
854 - 079900
855 - 004403
Procedure:
Remove the glovebox:
- Open the glovebox lid.
- Release the arms (shown in illustration).
- Remove the six screws to the dashboard.
- Carefully withdraw the glove compartment.
Loosen the four screws in the lid hinges.
Push the lid forwards.
Tighten the screws and check that the lid fits properly.

The glovebox lid rattles due to the locking links having no grease on them.

Can occur at engine idle in cars with automatic transmission in Drive and A/C turned on.
Procedure:
Unscrew the 7 screws on the inner lid and grease the locking links.

Wiring/wiring mounting tape making knocking or ticking noise on the glovebox.

Procedure:
Remove the glovebox. See operation A1.
Fasten all the cables that can come into contact with the compartment using anti-squeak tape, p/n 1161312-2.
Make sure that all factory installed tape (or new installed) has good adhesion to avoid ticking noise. Cut loose ends.
Wrap the bar code label around the SRS wiring so the bar code is visible. Tape firmly at both ends.
Note:
Do not tape over the bar code.

HIGH-PITCHED NOISE FROM THE SWITCH TO THE GLOVEBOX.
Procedure:
Remove the glovebox as in operation A1.
Grease the spring in the switch.

The connector to the glovebox lighting rattles because it is not properly installed in the clip. Mostly affects cars with chassis numbers up to: 854 - 108000
855 - 019000
Procedure:
Remove the glovebox as in operation Al. Press the connector into place in the clip.

THE GLOVEBOX LOCK CYLINDER RATTLES DUE TO TOO BIG AXIAL PLAY.
Mostly affects cars with chassis numbers up to:
854 - 039000
Procedure:
Unscrew the screws on the inner glovebox lid (7 screws).
Fasten a piece of foam plastic in the recess in the center of the lock.
At the same time, verify that the locking links are greased, as in operation A2.

VIBRATING NOISE FROM THE TUMBLER DISCS IN THE GLOVEBOX LOCK.
Mostly affects cars with chassis numbers:
854 036120 - 080000
Procedure:
Unscrew the screws on the inner glovebox lid (7 screws).
Lubricate the discs with grease.
At the same time, verify that the locking links are greased, as in operation A2.
