Electrical Zones and Connectors, Diagram Information
Electrical Zones & Connectors:
Division Into Electrical Zones:
The electrical systems as a whole are divided into a number of electrical zones. Each electrical zone normally consists of a subsystem which can be pre-assembled and tested before installing in the car. The Image shows the different electrical zones in the car.
Each electrical zone is normally connected by just one connector. In some cases, however, a number of connectors are used; these are then in close proximity to one another.
Dividing the electric into zones has a number of advantages. For example, taking a door off means disconnecting a single connector. The number of junction points is reduced, reducing the number of potential sources of faults.
Connectors between electrical zones are double-locked and physically coded to avoid wrong connections. They are located at specific points in the car, with special clips and mountings to hold them in place.
The close-up illustrations within the Image show the connector for the leads between the front and engine compartment and between the door and A-post. Accessory leads are run and integrated into the different electrical zones. This makes for a high level of reliability, even for accessories, and makes for ease of installation.
