Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Preliminary Information

When you connect the radio system to the power supply you should always make sure that the connection is made according to the radio and the wiring instructions for the car.

Newer cars use a 9- or 14-pin connector which reduces the risk of improper connection. Older cars may not have this system however, so it is recommended that it be installed when installing a new radio.

Note that the radio works only when the ignition key is set to "radio" or when the ignition is on and/or the engine is running (position I or II).

NOTE: A quick way to check that the radio is grounded is to disconnect the antenna cable. The radio can sometimes be connected to ground through the point where the antenna connects to the chassis.
