Replacement of passenger side SRS air bag module

The 1994940 will be equipped with an air bag on the passenger side. The 940 '94 M/Y SRS function/fault tracing is the same as the 960 '93 M/Y and on. See Service Manual, TP 32181/1.

WARNING:
Particular care must be taken when carrying out repairs to cars equipped with SRS. For further information, refer to appropriate Service Manual.

Caution:
Under no circumstances may an ohmmeter or other current-carrying instrument be used to measure the resistance of the module or to test the air bag wiring with the module connected.

WARNING:
The battery must not be connected while the module is being removed or installed.





Removal of passenger side module

- Turn radio off.
- Remove battery negative lead. Ignition must be turned off.
- Ensure that car is unoccupied when battery is disconnected.
- Remove soundproofing panel (3 clips)

Remove glove box compartment





- Pry off plastic covers on each side and remove screws (2).
- Remove nuts (2) on underside.
- Disconnect glove box compartment lighting connector

Lift out glove box compartment.





Remove passenger side air bag module

- Two screws on underside
- Press module upward from underside. Lift out module.

Disconnect:

- connector from clip on connector module
- connector from module

Reinstall components in reverse order. Tighten module retaining nuts to 10 Nm (88 inch-lbs). Confirm that radio is off.

Note:
Always switch ignition on before reconnecting battery negative lead.

Ensure that car is unoccupied when battery is reconnected.

Note:
Remember to replace label on passenger side B-post with label supplied with new module.

Note:
Igniter lead must also be replaced if passenger side air bag has been deployed.

Final check

- Check for DTCs
