DESCRIPTION
The liquid-cooled engine is provided with a closed cooling system

The system consists of an inner and an outer circuit, the latter including the radiator and expansion vessel. Other system components. as well as the car's heating system. are part of the inner circuit.

OPERATION
Circulation is controlled by a centrifugal pump, the rear end of which is integral with the cylinder block. The pump is driven by the timing belt, an arrangement which ensures uniform loading of the pump bearings.

The system is filled and topped up through the expansion vessel.

Genuine Volvo coolant diluted with clean water in proportions of 50/50 is the only cooling medium which can be guaranteed by Volvo. This mixture prevents damage due to corrosion and freezing, and raises the boiling point to 135 degrees C.

Under normal conditions, the coolant requires to be changed only when the system has been drained, for example in the course of repair work.

NOTE: The block is not provided with frost plugs.
