Fuel Pump: Testing and Inspection

Gauge Connection:

CHECK LINE PRESSURE
1. Switch ignition "OFF."
2. Connect fuel pressure gauge.

Starting Fuel Pump:

3. Start fuel pumps.
Remove fuses 30 and 31
Connect jumper across right-hand fuse terminals.

Measuring System Pressure:

4. Measure line pressure. Should be 300 kPa.

Line Pressure Too High:

LINE PRESSURE TOO HIGH:
1. Disconnect jumper lead between fuse terminals.
2. Disconnect and blow through fuel return line.
3. Disconnect and blow through vacuum line.
4. If both lines are clear, fault is in pressure regulator. Replace and recheck.

Line Pressure Too Low:

LINE PRESSURE TOO LOW:
1. Clamp return line by hand and check whether pressure rises.
2. If pressure rises rapidly, pump and lines are OK. Replace pressure regulator and recheck.
3. If pressure rises slowly, fuel filter, fuel pump strainer, or fuel lines are restricted. Repair and recheck.
4. If pressure does not rise, Fuel pump is faulty. Replace pump and recheck.
