Checking Intake System

CHECK AIR LEAKAGE IN INTAKE SYSTEM

Preparations
^ Check that all hoses are undamaged and correctly fitted and that hose clips are tight.

Connection
^ Slack off fresh air hose from Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor.
^ Fit tool P/N 9995545 to pressure regulator P/N 9995544 on fresh air hose and remove hose clips.
^ Use hose pliers to tighten crankcase ventilation hose.
^ Remove oil filler cap.

Check
^ Adjust regulator so that pressure of max. 0.3 bar (4.4 psi) is maintained.
^ A faint hissing sound can be heard through the oil filler. This is due to opening of intake valve and leakage of cylinder pressure past piston rings.
^ Check components and connections.
^ Spray soap solution if uncertain about leakage.
^ Small bubbles around throttle spindle are OK.
^ Check EVAP system.
