Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Testing and Inspection

1. Check fluid level and condition, correct as necessary.
2. Check kickdown cable adjustment.
3. Check adjustment and operation of shift linkage.
4. Check line pressure.
5. Check one-way clutches as follows:
a. Disconnect propeller shaft from drive flange.
b. Rotate output shaft clockwise then counterclockwise. A much greater force will be needed to turn output shaft clockwise.
c. If force needed to turn output shaft is same in both directions, one-way clutch 2 is defective.
d. If output shaft turns clockwise. Clutch 1 is defective.
6. Check pan for solid particles.
a. Solid particles in pan indicates a defective clutch 1.
b. If no particles are found, clean or replace valve body and filter.
c. Check gear selector unit for proper operation.
