Engine: Description and Operation

B5254 Engines
The B5254 engines is a 5-cylinder, 20-valve 2435 cc engine.

The engine is combined with the M 56 five speed transmission or the AW 50-42 electronically controlled four speed automatic transmission.

Engine and transmission are supported in a sub-frame and three engine mountings, of which two are hydraulic. The remaining engine mounting is a support to hold the engine in equilibrium.

The sub-frame is supported in the body on four rubber bushings.

Maximum torque: 220 Nm (162.4 ft lb) at 3300 rpm

NOTE: Overrev protection operates at approx. 6800 rpm.
