Retailer Letter

November, 1996

To: All Volvo Retailers - U.S. and Canada

Re: Recall 80

Volvo Cars of North America, Inc., and Volvo Canada Ltd., have announced a safety recall on the throttle housing of certain 1996 and 1997 Model Year 850 and 960 series vehicles equipped with naturally-aspirated, five cylinder (20 valve only) and six cylinder engines. A total of 12,530 vehicles in the U.S. and 691 in Canada are potentially affected.

There is a possibility that the screws which attach the throttle plate to its axle (shaft) may in time come loose, resulting in a loose throttle plate. A loose throttle plate, in extreme circumstances, may come in contact with the throttle housing, which may thereby prevent the throttle from returning to idle position. The throttle housing will be replaced on all affected vehicles.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Announcement letters will be sent directly to owners of 1996 and 1997 850 and 960 series vehicles on or about November 8, 1996.
