Dear Volvo Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Volvo has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the throttle housing in certain 1996 through 1997 Model Year 850 and 960 series sedans and wagons.

How your vehicle is affected:

Volvo has found that on a small number of affected vehicles, there is a possibility that the screws which attach the throttle plate to its axle (shaft), may in time come loose, resulting in a loose throttle plate. A loose throttle plate, in extreme circumstances, may come in contact with the throttle housing, which may thereby prevent the throttle from returning to idle position.

Service resolution:

Volvo will replace the throttle housing at no charge to you. The time needed for this service procedure is about a half hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your retailer may need your vehicle for one full working day. Upon receipt of this letter please contact your authorized Volvo retailer to arrange an appointment for this repair.

Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to any involved lessee within ten days. Lessor means a person or entity that is the owner, as reflected on the vehicle's title, of any five or more leased vehicles.
