General

The Volvo Scan Tool (ST) with memory cassette makes it possible to communicate with the system control modules in the car. By connecting the Scan Tool to the car's data link connector (DLC), diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) can be read and erased, components and functions activated, input and output signals read and other Scan Tool services accessed. The Volvo Scan Tool (ST) communicates with the control module via a standard communications interface.

The data link connector (DLC) is located in the car.

To establish communication with the power seat control module the following conditions must be met:
- Battery voltage must be more than approx. 11 V.
- The ignition can be turned OFF.

Reading off and erasing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
This function allows stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), counters and frozen values to be read and erased.

A diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) can only be erased when all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been read off at least once and the reason for the fault has been corrected.

When the control module detects a fault the values of certain parameters are frozen and can be read off with the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Frozen values for the following parameters can be read off:
- The position of the motors and their speed (via potentiometers)
- The status of the buttons on the control panel.
- Motors activated (front/rear) or not
- Supply voltage to control module

For more information refer to Frozen Values. Other Parameter Tables

Activating components/functions
This function makes it possible to operate the seat using the arrow keys on the Volvo Scan Tool (ST).

Reading off input and output signals
This function makes it possible to read off the value on all the control module's inputs and outputs.
- Supply voltage
- The control module's relays (outputs to motors)
- The potentiometers values
- The motors speed
- The buttons on the control panel

For more information refer to Volvo Scan Tool (ST) Scrolling values refer to Parameter Tables. Other Parameter Tables

Reading the control module ID
The Volvo Scan Tool (ST) identifies control modules by reading a code from the control module memory. The code contains information on the part number of the control module and the software version it is using.
