CI-211 D+ Signal
Condition:Generator Not Charging:
- Combined instrument panel registers no charging signal (D+) from the generator (GEN) when the engine speed (RPM) signal exceeds 1,000 rpm for at least 10 seconds.
Possible Source:
- Defective generator (GEN).
- Large contact resistance.
- Broken/slipping fan belt.
- Poorly tensioned drive belt.
Fault Symptom(s):
- The generator charge warning lamp is lit when the engine is running. The bulb failure warning sensor, brake circuit, parking brake, engine coolant level, SRS, low fuel level, service and low washer reservoir level indicator lamp are also lit.
Start fault-tracing with step 1, below.
1) Status Check:
Engine Running:
- Start engine.
- Go into scrolling values.
- Read off status of generator (GEN) charge voltage.
- Is the status (voltage) high?
Yes: Go to step 5, below.
No: Go to step 2, below.
2) Checking the Charging System:
- Check charging system for low charge voltage.
- Then continue with step 3, below.
3) Verification:
Note: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off.
Connect Connector:
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
Engine Running:
- Start engine.
- Go into scrolling values.
- Read off status of generator (GEN) charge voltage.
- Is the status (voltage) high?
Yes: Fault corrected.
No: Go to step 4, below.
4) Fault-Tracing Information:
- The verification result shows that the fault persists.
- Do you want to quit fault-tracing?
Yes: Fault not corrected.
No: Start over at step 1, above.
5) Faulty Signal, Intermittent Fault:
- Check charging system for intermittent fault causes of low charge voltage. See charging System.
- Then continue with step 6, below.
6) Fault-Tracing Information:
- For intermittent faults fault-tracing is not followed by a verification because the fault is not present at this moment.
- If you want to repeat fault-tracing, start over at step 1, above.
