5-1-4 ENGINE COOLING FAN LOW-SPEED, SIGNAL





Trouble Code Conditions
- Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EFI-514 is stored if there is a short-circuit to ground/voltage in the engine cooling fan (FC) signal cable or if there is an open-circuit in the circuit.

Substitute value(s)
- Idle air trim disabled.
- Fuel trim disabled.
- Conditions for fuel shut-off changed.
- If engine coolant temperature exceeds 102°C the engine cooling fan starts operating at high-speed.

Possible source(s)
Signal too low:
- Short-circuit to supply voltage in signal cable (A7)
- Short-circuit to ground in signal cable (A7)
- Defective engine cooling fan relay.

Signal too high:
- Short-circuit to ground in signal cable.
- Defective engine cooling fan relay.

Signal missing:
- Open-circuit in signal cable.
- Open-circuit in engine cooling fan relay power cable.
- Short-circuit to ground in signal cable (A22).
- Contact resistance in terminals.
- Defective engine cooling fan relay.

Fault symptom(s)
- May result in poor performance.

- Refer to: Signal Too Low. Permanent Fault.

Alternative 3:

- Refer to: Signal Too High. Intermittent Fault.

Alternative 5:
- Refer to: Signal Too Low. Intermittent Fault.

Alternative 6:
- Refer to: Signal Missing. Intermittent Fault.
