Start Inhibitor Malfunction

The Car Can Be Started When The Alarm Has Been Triggered

Guard Alarm I:
Check control module programing to see that Function 2 (SOFT automatic activation) is not set to 2 or 5 (start inhibitor disabled).

Sources of fault
Open-circuit in signal lead between ignition and alarm relay plinth.
Short-circuit to ground in signal lead between ignition and alarm relay plinth.
Short-circuit between leads on alarm relay plinth.
Fault in fuse 2.
Fault in relief relay 2/31.
Fault in alarm control module.

Fault-tracing starts with J1.

J1 Checking Starter Motor
Deactivate alarm.

Ignition off.
Remove alarm control module (position 210/211).

Start engine by turning ignition key to position III.
Starter motor should not work.

If starter motor does not work:
Check fuse J2.

If starter motor works:
Check lead to alarm relay plinth position 50E and lead to alarm relay plinth position 50F for short-circuit between them as per WA5 See Other Fault-Tracing Test. Check starter motor electrics.

J2 Check Fuse

Ignition off.
Remove fuse 2 from engine compartment fuse panel and check that fuse is intact.

If fuse is intact:
Check ignition supply J3.

If fuse is faulty:
Check lead between battery and alarm relay plinth position 15 for short-circuit to ground as per WA4 SEE Other Fault-Tracing Test. Deal with fault and replace fuse.

J3 Checking Ignition Supply

Replace fuse.

Test A:

Ignition off.
Connect a voltmeter to alarm relay plinth between position 15 and position 31 (ground). Voltmeter should read 0 V.

Test B:

Ignition on.
Reconnect voltmeter to alarm relay plinth between position 15 and position 31 (ground). Voltmeter should read battery voltage.

If both readings are OK:
Try another alarm control module after Fault-Tracing in Alarm Wiring Harness of Guard Alarm I or II (only).

Guard Alarm II:
Run control module self-test in Guard Alarm II (only) before replacing control module.

If any reading is incorrect:
Check lead between ignition and alarm relay plinth position 15 for open-circuit as per WA3 or try another relief relay 2/31.
Deal with fault or replace lead. WA test found in Other Fault-Tracing Test.
