Scan Tool Testing and Procedures

FAULT-TRACING SCHEMATICS

1: Read the System Description. Description and Operation
- If uncertain about the functions or component parts of the power seat.
- Then continue with step 2.

2: Read the section entitled General Data. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
- Ignition and high tension components.
- Battery.
- SIPS Airbag.
- Control modules.
- Radio.
- Alarm.
- Abbreviations.
- Symbols.
- Location of components.
- Then continue with step 3.

3: Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Note down the fault symptoms the customer describes.
- Connect Volvo Scan Tool (ST). If there is a problem with communication:
Checking Supply Voltage
and
Fault Tracing Information
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- Then continue with step 4.

4: Correct fault
- Carry out fault-tracing in accordance with DTC table below.
- If the fault is still present, carry out fault-tracing accordance with Symptom Table. Symptom Table
- Then continue with step 5.

5: Final check
- Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) PSL/PSR-424 cannot be erased.
- Carry out function test and activate all functions on the power seat. Check for correct operation and that the symptoms described by the customer are no longer present.
- Finish by reading diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and checking that no diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has be set again.
- Then continue with step Operation done.

VOLVO SCAN TOOL (ST)

General

The Volvo Scan Tool (ST) with memory cassette makes it possible to communicate with the system control modules in the car. By connecting the Scan Tool to the car's data link connector (DLC), diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) can be read and erased, components and functions activated, input and output signals read and other Scan Tool services accessed.

Connecting the Volvo Scan Tool (ST)





- Ignition OFF.
- Install memory cassette.
- Connect Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to data link connector (DLC) using adapter.
- Ignition ON.
- Turn on power to the Volvo Scan Tool (ST).
- Select language, car and function group.
- Select required system.
- Select LEFT or RIGHT SEAT.
- Select DIAGNOS TEST to read out and erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), counters and frozen values and for activating components/functions.
- Select MONITOR TEST and SCROLLING LIST to read off the control module input and output signals.
- Select CM ID to read off the part number of the control module.

DTC Table
A fault can occur in two forms, intermittent or permanent. Intermitten faults are temporary and can reoccur. Permanent faults are always present.





NOTE: 1 - Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is permanent. Cannot be erased.
