Oil Level Sensor Inoperative
Use this fault-tracing procedure if:- Oil warning light comes on.
- Engine oil level higher than 4 mm (0,16") above MIN mark on dipstick.
- Fuse # 15 on fuse panel is OK.
Sources of Fault:
- Open-circuit in oil level sensor signal lead.
- Warning light signal lead short-circuited to ground.
- Fault in oil level sensor relay.
- Fault in oil level sensor.
Start fault-tracing at step 1, below.
1) Checking Oil Level Sensor:
- Ignition off.
- Undo oil level sensor connector.
- Connect a lead across terminals 1 and 2 on oil level sensor connector.
- Start engine.
- See if oil warning light comes on.
If warning light comes on go to step 2, below.
If warning light does not come on the fault is in the oil level sensor. Replace oil level sensor. Oil Level Sensor
2) Checking Warning Light Signal Lead:
- Ignition off.
- Remove oil level sensor relay 4/18. Service and Repair
- Start engine.
- Check if oil warning light comes on.
If warning light comes on:
- Short-circuit to ground in signal lead between instrument panel terminal # A27 and terminal 9 in oil level sensor relay holder.
- Check signal lead and connections for short-circuit to ground. Checking Cables and Terminals
If Warning light does not come on, go to step 3, below.
3) Checking Oil Level Sensor Signal Lead:
- Ignition off.
- Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 2 on oil level sensor connector and terminal 8 on oil level sensor relay holder.
- Ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohm.
If reading is correct:
- Fault is in the oil level sensor relay. Replace relay. Service and Repair
If reading is incorrect:
- Open-circuit is in signal lead between terminal 2 on oil level sensor connector and terminal 8 on oil level sensor relay holder.
- Check signal lead for open-circuit. Checking Cables and Terminals
