Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair




Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.





2. Release steering column wheel adjuster. Pull steering wheel forward as far as possible.





3. Remove:
a. Steering column upper cover using long Torx TX 15 tool.
b. Steering column lower cover using Torx TX 25 tool.
4. Remove windshield wiper lever (stalk).
5. Insert ignition key in switch and turn to position I. Depress lock cylinder locking tab using 2 mm (0.079 inch) drift.
6. Remove ignition switch.





7. Insert ignition key in new switch.
a. Turn key to position I.
b. Depress locking tab using drift or similar implement.
c. Install ignition switch.





8. Install:
a. Steering column lower cover. Use Torx TX 25 tool. Ensure that windshield wiper lever (stalk) boot is in position.
b. Upper steering column cover. Use long Torx TX 15 tool. Ensure that none of the wires are pinched when covers are installed.
9. Adjust steering wheel alignment and raise adjuster lever to lock.
