General

The central lock ing system can be used to lock and unlock all doors and the trunk/tailgate simultaneously. The central locking system can be remote-controlled using a keyring-type radio transmitter. The central locking system can also be controlled using the key in either front door.

What is unique about the 2-STEP central locking system is that when you unlock the front door locks with the key, the door lock concerned opens purely mechanically.

If you unlock the door once more within 10 seconds, all the doors will open, plus the trunk in 4-door models and the tailgate in 5-door models.

Pressing the UNLOCK button on the remote control opens the driver's door only.

Pressing twice within 10 seconds opens all the doors and the trunk in 4-door or tailgate in 5-door models.

There is a central locking button on the dashboard for locking and unlocking the central locking system from inside.

The central locking system is controlled by a central locking relay and a driver's door relay located in the passenger compartment fuse panel.

The central locking system also controls the interior lighting.

When you first unlock the car using the key, remote control or central locking switch, the interior lighting comes on.

The light stays on for 30 seconds or until the ignition is switched on.

If there is a central locking system power failure, the doors and trunk/tailgate can be locked and unlocked mechanically using the key or the interior locking button and door locks.

The central locking system also controls the alarm system if the car is fitted with one. For fault tracing alarm systems refer to Antitheft and Alarm Systems. Testing and Inspection
