Removal

Preparations





Remove:
- Cover above spare wheel.
- Cargo compartment carpet.
- Cover for rear light.
- Rear panel.
- Side panel.

Disconnecting Connectors





Remove:
- Cover over fuel tank unit
- Hoses from fuel tank unit (undo the quick-release connector by pushing the hose down while pulling the sleeve up).
- Tie straps on fuel filler pipe
- Electrical connector and press out rubber grommet.
- Remove fuel tank unit wiring.

NOTE: Avoid breathing in fuel vapor, use a protective mask.





Removing Fuel Pump
- Remove hose clamp around nut on fuel tank unit.
- Remove nut with tool 999 5448.
- Lift up fuel tank unit.
- Put fuel tank unit to one side (place in a plastic bag to stop it fuel leaking and odor).





Draining Fuel
- Use fuel tank draining unit.
- Suck fuel through the filler hole in the fuel tank unit.





Removing Fuel Tank Protection
- Remove four screws.





Removing Front Fuel Tank Mounting
- Remove retaining strap screws. Slacken off outer screws approx. 10 mm (0.39 in).
- Withdraw retaining straps from front fuel tank mounting.





Removing Strut Under Fuel Tank
- Remove strut under fuel tank.
- Remove right tank mounting nut.





Removing Tank From Bodywork
- Pull out the tank so that it rests on the mounting bracket.





Removing Propeller Shaft
- Put gear selector in neutral. Ensure that the parking brake is not on.
- Raise the car

NOTE: Note whether the propeller shaft is mounted onto the rear drive flange with balancing screws.

- Note the length of the screws and mark their positions on the joint with a colored pen. Also mark the position of the joint in relation to the drive flange before removing the propeller shaft.

Removing Propeller Shaft From Drive Flange





Remove:
- Propeller shaft from front flange. Use socket 999 5244
- One of the fuel tank support screws, and twist support to one side.
- Propeller shaft from rear flange. Use 999 5561 as a counterhold.

Removing Propeller Shaft From Car





Remove:
- The two screws holding the propeller shaft center bearing.
- Center bearing member mounting screws (4).

NOTE: Recover the washer between bearing and member.

- Remove propeller shaft from car by pulling it forwards.





Mobile Jack
- Position mobile jack with the fixture 999 5972 under fuel tank.





Lowering Tank
- Remove front mounting.
- Lower tank a bit and pull forwards.
- Remove expansion nipple hose above propeller shaft tunnel.
- Remove the tank.
- Remove protective plates from fuel tank.
