Hands-free

Note! This accessory is connected to the car's electrical system. It requires software unique to the car.

Hint: Points 26-39 apply to cars with accessory electronic module.

Preparations




- Slide back the driver's seat to the rearmost and uppermost position
- Turn the ignition key to position 0
- Remove the key from the ignition switch (does not apply to cars with automatic gearboxes)
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Note! Wait at least five minutes before disassembling the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.




- Press in the clips so that the ventilation grille releases
- Remove the grille. Use a weatherstrip tool
- Remove the connector (1) for the hazard warning signal flasher.




- Remove the trim strip on the dashboard. First carefully pull the trim strip straight outward as close to the mounting point (1) as possible.

Installing and cable routing the handset holder




- Screw the mounting plates for the holders in the holes (1).




- Mark out the holes for the car-phone holder (1). First align the edge of the holder with the edge of the hole (2). Press the holder upwards by 3 mm (7/64"). Drill a hole using a 5 mm (13/64") drill bit. Use a 20 mm (3/4") drill stop
- Install the holder in the panel. Move the plate (3) through the hole for the vent. Screw the holder and the plate into place. Use the two screws from the kit.




- Remove the side panel (1). First twist the clip at the rear edge of the panel a 1/4 turn. Pull the rear edge of the panel outwards and backwards
- Remove the screws (2) for the soundproofing panel (3). Pry off the soundproofing panel at the rear edge until the three clips on the inside release
- Remove the door trim strip panel (4).




- Mark out for the cut-out in the panel for the wiring as illustrated, 5 mm (13/64")
- Remove the cover (1). Remove the screws (2)
- Angle the upper edge of the panel outwards. Pull the panel outwards. Remove the panel. Detach the panel from the boot
- File the cut out according to the markings.

- Route the wiring from the handset through the hole under the combined instrument panel. Continue downwards inside the left-hand side of the centre console
- Pull the wiring along the air duct and down to the right-hand front edge of the seat.

- Screw the handset holder (1) onto the mounting plate (2) using the screw (3). Install the cover (4)
- Route the excess wiring from the handset holder behind the combined instrument panel.

Illustration 8D applies to the Ericsson T20




- Screw the handset mounting (1) onto the mounting plate (2) using the screw (3)
- Install the handset (4) on the mounting (1)
- Route the excess wiring from the handset holder behind the combined instrument panel.




- Reinstall the boot on the panel
- Reinstall the panel and the trim strip
- Align the wiring in the cut out on the panel.

Note! Ensure that the cable is not trapped and does not rattle.




- Detach the panel (1). Detach the gear selector lever boot using a weatherstrip tool.




- Move the gear selector lever to the rearmost position
- Pull the panel (1) with the boot backwards. Turn the panel as illustrated
- Remove the screws (2) from the dashboard environment panel.




- Angle the dashboard environment panel outwards so that it is possible to insert a couple of fingers between the centre console and the side of the dashboard environment panel
- Detach the dashboard environment panel by pulling it downwards while maintaining the same angle. Some force is required because the panel is tightly installed. Disconnect the connectors on the reverse of the dashboard environment panel. Place the dashboard environment panel to one side.

Note! If any of the outer hooks break off, these must be repaired. The method for this can be found in the Workshop Manual in the section about the dashboard.




- Remove the screws (1) from the radio bracket
- Pull the bracket with the radio outwards at the lower edge. Pull the whole unit downwards
- Disconnect the connectors from the radio. Place the radio to one side.




- Take the T cable (1) from the kit. Connect a connector to the corresponding connector (2) disconnected from the radio
- Take the new cable harness. Connect the connector (3) to the T cable.




- Remove both covers (1) from the front mountings on the front driver's seat. Remove the screws (2) from the front mountings. New screws can be found in the kit
- Tip the seat backward slightly to route the wiring under the carpet.




- Route the cable harness (1) (previously connected to the radio connector) down along the air ducts (2)
- Route the thicker of the cables (3) from the handset holder and the cable harness from the radio connector under the carpet. Continue to the carpet joint
- The thin cable (4) from the handset holder is later connected to the aerial cable routed under the carpet.

Head restraint upholstery preparations




- Remove the driver's seat head restraint (2). First press in the catches (1). At the same time pull the head restraint up.

Does not apply to cars with leather upholstery




- Remove the upholstery from the head restraint. If the zip fastener catch is missing: Disconnect the clamps at the ends of the zip fastener. Pull the zip fastener apart.




- Turn the head restraint upholstery inside out
- Mark up for holes on the right hand side of the head restraint. Mark from the underside (1) of the side 120 mm (4 23/32") upwards and mark out between the two seams (2) and (3).




- Punch out the hole using the hole punch from the kit. Use a wooden or cork underlay
- Turn the upholstery the correct way
- Carefully thread the upholstery over the new head restraint with the microphone.




- Close the zip fastener. If the zip fastener catch is missing: Take the suitable zip fastener catch from the kit. Close the zip fastener again. Lock the ends using staples for example
- Push the ends of the zip fastener inside the upholstery.

Installing the head restraint




- Insert curtain wire down the reverse of the back rest between the upholstery and the padding
- Tape the switch from the microphone cable to the curtain wire. Pull down through the seat
- Install the new head restraint.




- Secure the cable under the seat. Use tie straps
- Connect the cable from the head restraint (1) to the cable harness on the hands free box (2).

Connecting the hands-free box

Applies to Nokia




- Install the adapter plate (1) on the bracket (2.) Use the screws (3) and the nuts (4).

On cars without an accessory electronic module do not use the long single cable. Hide the single cable. Insulate the cable terminal using a piece of foam tape from the kit.

Illustration 25A applies to Ericsson




- Connect the wiring from the car-phone holder and the radio to the hands free box
- Screw the hands free box onto the bracket.

Illustration 25B applies to Nokia




- Connect the wiring for the head restraint (1), the car-phone holder (2) and the radio (3) to the hands-free-box as illustrated
- Secure the hands free box on the adapter plate (5). Use the screw (6). Install the cover (4).

Cable routing and connection to the accessory electronic module




- Pull the front edge of the seat cushion (1) upwards. Pull the seat cushion forward and lift out.




- Fold the left hand rear backrest forward
- Remove the seat belt from the guide (1).




- Insert your hand down the side of the lower section of the side cushion. Remove the left-hand side cushion
- Release the catches. At the same time lift the side cushion
- Place the cushion to one side
- Repeat the operation on the other side.




- Remove the sill moulding from the left-hand rear door.




- Remove the cargo compartment carpet (1)
- Turn the clips (2) on the left and right-hand side panels
- Remove the two clips and the plastic nut at the lower edge of the panels
- Remove the panels
- Remove the two covers (3). Slacken off the two screws (4). Grip the outer edges of the panel (5). Pull the panel inwards towards the centre so that the clips release at the sides. Disconnect the connectors (6) for the cargo compartment lamps
- Remove the panel by pulling it straight upwards so that the clips release from the rear crossmember.




- Remove the clips (1) from the left front side panel in the cargo compartment
- Remove the clips (2) from the front edge of the side panel
- Remove the panel.




- Route the long cable (previously routed with the cable harness from the radio) under the carpet. Continue out to the left-hand side of the car
- Clamp the cable at the existing cable at the left-hand side of the cross member. Use a tie strap (1) from the kit
- Route the cable inside the carpet and under the cable ducts (2) and (3) along the left-hand side of the car towards the cargo compartment. Ensure that the cable is securely pressed down between the sills and carpets
- Route the cable under the existing wiring and the connectors by the cable duct (3).




- Route the cable along the left-hand rear wheel well to the rear crossmember
- Continue to route the cable along the rear crossmember over the rear edge on the right-hand rear wheel well
- Secure the cable along the existing cable harnesses. Use the tie straps (1) (from the kit).




- Slacken off the screw (1) and the nut (1) in the lock facing for the rear Accessory Electronic Module in the right rear wheel well. Slacken off a few turns
- Pull the lock facing out to the right. Remove the lock facing.




- Lift the accessory electronic module out of the bracket.




- Disconnect the large connector from the Accessory Electronic Module. First press in catch A. Pull black locking handle B in the direction of the arrow until a click is heard. Disconnect the connector
- Remove the connector from the Accessory Electronic Module.




- Remove the black catch holding the black switch in place in the connector by pulling in the direction of the arrow
- Remove the black switch by inserting a pointed object in the hole on the other end. Press the switch out.




- Connect the pre routed cable to the Accessory Electronic Module connector in terminal 11.

Note! Number markings can be found on the top and bottom of the black switch. The markings are very small. Ensure accuracy when installing the cable.




- Reinstall the black switch in the connector. Lock into place using the catch
- Press the connector into the Accessory Electronic module. Secure using the black arm
- Reinstall the Accessory Electronic Module. Secure any excess cable
- Reinstall the lock facing above the Accessory Electronic Module. Tighten the screw and the nut. Tighten to 10 Nm (8 lbf.ft.)
- Program the software according to the service information in VIDA.

Installing the hands-free box

Applies to both Ericsson and Nokia





Note! Install the aerial according to the separate Installation Instructions.

- Tip the driver's seat back slightly
- Position the hands free box and the bracket with the mounting over the screw hole in the right front mounting for the driver's seat
- Fold the seat down towards the mountings. Check that the bracket for the hands free box is positioned under the seat rail
- Clamp the cables.

Note! It must be possible to operate the seat without the cables stretching or breaking.

Note! Ensure that the none of the wiring is trapped.

- Tighten the front edge of the seat. Use two new screws
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lbf.ft.)
- Reinstall the covers for the screws.

Finishing work

Reinstall:
- the side panel at the centre console
- the soundproofing panel
- the ventilation grille
- the radio
- the dashboard environmental panel
- the panel around the gear selector lever
- the panels for the door sills.

- Turn the ignition key to position II
- Connect the battery negative lead.

Reinstall:
- the panels in the cargo compartment
- the side cushion
- the backrest
- the seat cushion.

Applies to the Ericsson T28 and T20 after installing the car-phone holder
- Place the car-phone in the holder. Check that the cover on the car-phone does not catch when it is opened.

If the cover catches:
- Remove the outer section (1) of the car-phone holder
- Slacken off the screw (2) slightly so that the intermediate section (3) of the car-phone holder can be turned in its mounting (4)
- Place the car-phone with the cover open in the car-phone holder
- Test the car-phone holder in different positions. When the optimum position is found, remove the car-phone. Screw the car-phone holder into place on the mounting.

Illustration 42B applies to the Ericsson T20





If the cover catches:
- Remove the car-phone holder (4) from the intermediate section (1)
- Slacken off the screw (3) slightly so that the intermediate section (1) of the car-phone holder can be turned in its mounting (2)
- Place the car-phone with the cover open in the car-phone holder
- Test the car-phone holder in different positions. When the optimum position is found, remove the car-phone. Screw the car-phone holder into place on the mounting.
