Checking the Rear Loudspeakers. Rear Seat Entertainment, Generation 3.1/3.2

Checking the rear loudspeakers

Fault-tracing information
If both headsets function but the rear loudspeakers do not function at the same time as the other speakers in the car, the fault can be due to:
- Cable harness to loudspeaker used by the system for rear seat entertainment.
- Rear audio separation (RAS) control module.

Note! If the vehicle is equipped with a parking assistance system a shut-off function is activated if the reverse gear is selected. This is so the warning signals from the back-up warning system can be heard.

Checking rear loudspeaker

Checking the settings
Check that the loudspeakers have not been switched off via the remote control menu system SPEAKERS.
Check that the volume has not been turned down via the remote control and that there is a sound source (listen at the speakers).
Ensure that the loudspeakers are not obstructed.
If the headsets do not work the fault is more general than described in this section.
The fault could be due to the rear audio separation (RAS) control module providing sound to the headsets but not the speakers.

Note! If the vehicle is equipped with a parking assistance system a shut-off function is activated if the reverse gear is selected. This is so the warning signals from the back-up warning system can be heard.

Checking the wiring for the loudspeakers
Check the following wiring between the rear audio separation (RAS) control module and the rear loudspeakers.
- Left-hand loudspeaker terminal #A8 (Speaker L-)
- Left-hand loudspeaker terminal #A11 (Speaker L+)
- Right-hand loudspeaker terminal #A9 (Speaker R-)
- Right-hand loudspeaker terminal #A10 (Speaker R+).
Also check the loudspeakers for damage.

Checking the channel selector
The rear audio separation (RAS) control module receives a channel selection signal from the control module. The signal informs the rear audio separation (RAS) control module what sound should be heard from the rear loudspeakers. If this does not work satisfactorily this signal is the cause of the fault. If the signal is 0V no sound will be heard from the loudspeakers. There might not be a fault but a selected setting carried out via the remote control, menu select SPEAKERS OFF.
Check the cable for the channel selector. Check the cable between control module terminal #C6 and rear audio separation (RAS) control module terminal #A18.

Checking the rear audio separation (RAS) control module
If no fault is found, replace the rear audio separation (RAS) control module.
Remedy as necessary.
