Additional Heater and Parking Heater (Combustion Preheater Module)

Adding accessories and replacing the control module

Replacing the control module
New software cannot be downloaded into the combustion preheater module because it is not a CAN node. Software can be downloaded into the central electronic module to obtain a new function.

Add accessories
The following accessories can be ordered to add functions:
- Additional heater
- Parking heater
- Residual heater.
Heaters are factory installed from structure week 9850 inclusive and can also be ordered for older cars. When the parking heater function is added to a car, the software is downloaded into a varying number of control modules (depending on the structure week in which the car was built) as follows: The structure week in which the car was manufactured can be read off using VIDA - Vehicle communication.

Cars with gasoline engines (structure week prior to 9904, Chassis number -029667 for S80):

- Driver information module
- Climate control module
- Central electronic module
- Engine control module (ECM)
- Steering wheel module.

Cars with diesel engines (structure week prior to 9904, Chassis number -029667 for S80):

- Climate control module
- Central electronic module.

On cars produced in structure week 9904 or later, Chassis number 029668- for S80:

- Central electronic module.
If a parking heater has been purchased for these older cars (manufactured before structure week 9904), this cannot be removed.
Before new software is downloaded (see above) for early S80 models from model year 1999, the customer parameters must be read off from the driver information module, the climate control module, the central electronic module, the engine control module (ECM) and the steering wheel module.
Cars without a parking heater can have the residual heater function. If the software is modified in the central electronic module the pump operates as if there is a parking heater but there is only the residual heater function. (Functions only on S80 chassis numbers 029668- ).
When ordering software, the status of the software in the car is compared to the Volvo central database. If the comparison is OK the software is downloaded to the control module.
If the comparison between the car and Volvo central database is not OK, the database is updated with the latest information. When this is complete the software is downloaded.
