DESCRIPTION:

There may be a clicking / ping noise from the front wheel hub, when changing driving direction (such as parking maneuvers) or upon take off.

This could occur if there is a small free play between drive shaft splines and wheel hub spline.

PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
For XC90, C30, C70, S40, V50 vehicles:
Drive shafts with helical splines have been introduced into production at the chassis numbers below. The helical spline will create a tighter fit to the wheel hub.

MATERIALS:
Volvo cleaner H, PN 1161436

Volvo thread locking paste, PN 1161053 (10 ml)

Sems screw, Check VIDA Parts catalog

SERVICE:

Remove the wheel hub bolt to access the drive shaft. Push the drive shaft out of the hub as far as possible.

Clean both hub and drive shaft interface thoroughly using Volvo cleaner.

Apply thread locking paste (or ACE Pipe thread compound / TFE paste).

Reinstall all parts.

Allow the thread locking paste to harden 30-60 minutes before using the vehicle.

Note!
If this noise exist on a vehicle listed under "PRODUCT MODIFICATION" with helical splines, the same repair method can be used.
