A/T - DTC 0053 Stored in TCM

NO: 43-41

DATE: 8-25-2003

MODEL:
S80/XC90 w/ 6 cylinder

M. YEAR:
2003-2004

SUBJECT:
TCM DTC 0053, Lock Up Pressure Switch Stuck

DESCRIPTION:

The voltage from the pressure switch in the transmission (PS4) should be 12V when the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) is off, and 0 V (ground) when the TCC is on.

TCM DTC 0053 is set when the TCC is commanded to be off, but it is measured to be on, based on the voltage from PS4.

If the Lock-Up Solenoid is faulty, the torque converter clutch will be on, and the voltage will be grounded, whenever the vehicle is in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear.

SERVICE:

Read and print the extended DTC information. Clear all DTCs. Put the TCM into 'Test Mode'. Drive the vehicle for about 10 minutes at 20-30 MPH. If DTC 0053 returns, replace the Lock-Up Solenoid (PN 30681205) according to the procedure in VADIS.

If DTC 0053 does not return, follow the fault tracing in VADIS.

NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the transmission oil pump to replace the solenoid as the VADIS procedure indicates.
