Faulty signal

Checking the adjustment of the gear-shift position sensor

- Ignition on
- Read off the position of the gear selector.

Note! Select the correct gear selector assembly from the list.

Shift the gear selector to all gear positions several times. This is to check the function of the gear selector sensor.
The selected position must be the same as that displayed in VIDA. If the display shows an undefined position (OR for example) when a specific gear is selected, the transmission cable needs adjusting.

Note! An undefined position may be displayed between the fixed gear positions. This isnota fault.

Adjust the gear-shift position sensor if necessary according to Gear-shift position sensor, checking/adjusting Adjustments.

Is the gear-shift position sensor incorrectly adjusted?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking the wiring

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the wiring

- Ignition off
- Disconnect the transmission connector
- Connect the breakout box.
Check the wiring between the transmission connector (control module side):
- terminal #B5 and control module terminal #A46 (#A46) "A"
- terminal #B6 and control module terminal #B4 (#A64) "B"
- terminal #B7 and control module terminal #A45 (#A45) "C"
- terminal #B8 and control module terminal #B3 (#A63) "PA".
check for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box, B5244T5, B5254T2 Connecting the Breakout Box
- To disconnect the transmission connectors, see Connectors transmission, disconnecting / connecting Procedures
- For information about signals, see Signal description. Transmission control module (TCM), AW50/51 AWD, AW55-50/51SN Signal Description. Transmission Control Module (TCM).
Was a fault detected? Select an option according to the following:
1. No fault detected
2. Open-circuit in the wiring or a short-circuit to ground
3. Short-circuit to supply voltage in the wiring.

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the gear-shift position sensor

Hint: The gear-shift position sensor may malfunction if there has been a short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable. Check the gear-shift position sensor as follows:

- Ignition off
- Transmission connector connected
- Control module connected.
- Ignition on
- Read off the position of the gear-shift position sensor
Note! Select the correct gear selector assembly from the list.

Move the gear selector to the different gear positions a number of times. Check the gear-shift position sensor function. If the gear-shift position sensor function is OK the cause of the fault was contact resistance and oxidation.

Note! An undefined position may be displayed between the fixed gear positions. This isnota fault.

Are all positions OK?

Yes - Fault Found

No - Replacing the component

-------------------------------------------------

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect components, connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off gear-shift position sensor position.
Move the gear selector to all shift positions a number of times, and repeatedly select the same position to check the operation of the gear-shift position sensor.
