Checking Locking to Deadlock

Checking locking to deadlock

Selecting a door

Note! The fault-tracing assumes that unlocking/locking with the central locking system functions normally.

Which door does it apply to?
1. Front door
2. Rear door.

Select an alternative that corresponds to the above.

1 - Checking the front door

2 - Checking rear doors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the front door
Check the control module connector terminal #B1 and the lock unit connector terminal #6. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check the intermediate cable. Check for an open-circuit.

Other information
- Checking wiring and terminals Checking Wiring and Terminals.

Was a fault detected?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking the component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking rear doors
Which door does it apply to?
1. A rear door
2. Both the rear doors.

Select an alternative that corresponds to the above.

1 - Circuit test

2 - Circuit test

-------------------------------------------------

Circuit test
The fault is caused by an open-circuit in the cable to (or in) the lock unit. To determine in which circuit the fault is:
Remove the deadlock relay (2/115).
Remove the lock unit connector. Check the connector for contact resistance and oxidation.

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing

Was a fault detected?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Circuit test (cont.)

-------------------------------------------------

Circuit test (cont.)
Check the cable between terminal #8 the cable and connector and terminal #3 on the relay base. Check for an open-circuit. If a fault is detected, check in particular the 2 intermediate connectors in the cable harness. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing
- To expose the lock unit, see Lock mechanism, tailgate, replacing Service and Repair
- Checking wiring and terminals Checking Wiring and Terminals.

Was a fault detected?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking the component

-------------------------------------------------

Circuit test
The fault indicates an open-circuit in the common relay circuit (relay 2/115 or the power supply to the relay).
Begin by replacing the relay for deadlocking (2/115) in the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment. Check the relay base switches. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing
- Checking wiring and terminals Checking Wiring and Terminals.

Was a fault detected?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking relay power supply

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the component
Measure the resistance between pins terminals #8 and #6 on the chassis switch lock unit.
The ohmmeter should read approximately 5 ohm

Other information
- To remove the lock unit, see Lock mechanism, tailgate, replacing Service and Repair
- For information about signals, see Signal specification Signal Specification.

Is the value correct?

Yes - Function test

No - Replacing the component

-------------------------------------------------

Function test
Check that the mechanical / electrical function of the lock unit is OK before the lock unit is reinstalled.

Is the function OK?

Yes - Troubleshooting procedure complete

No - Replacing the component

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the component
Replace the lock unit. See Lock mechanism, tailgate, replacing Service and Repair.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the component
Measure the resistance between pins terminals #7 and #6 on the chassis switch lock unit.
The ohmmeter should read approximately 5 ohm

Other information
- To remove the lock unit, see Lock mechanism, tailgate, replacing Service and Repair
- For information about signals, see Signal specification Signal Specification.

Is the value correct?

Yes - Function test

No - Replacing the component

-------------------------------------------------

Function test
Check that the mechanical / electrical function of the lock unit is OK before the lock unit is reinstalled.

Is the function OK?

Yes - Replacing the component

No - Replacing the component

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the component
Replace the rear electronic module (REM). See Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the component
Replace the lock unit. See Lock mechanism, tailgate, replacing Service and Repair.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

-------------------------------------------------

Checking relay power supply
- Remove the deadlock relay (2/115)
- Measure the voltage between terminal #5 in the relay base and ground.
The voltmeter should read battery voltage

Hint: If the value is OK but the fault remains, bridge between terminals #3 and #5 in the relay base to force a supply to the locking motor when continuing to take measurements

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing.

Is the value correct?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking fuses

-------------------------------------------------

Checking fuses
Remove fuse 11D/8 from the cargo compartment fusebox
Check that fuse 11D/8 is intact. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing
- Checking wiring and terminals Checking Wiring and Terminals.

Is the fuse intact?

Yes - Checking for open-circuits

No - Checking for short-circuits

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for open-circuits
Remove the relay 2/115 from the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment.
Check the cable between the fuse holder secondary side (left) and terminal #5 in the relay base. Check for an open-circuit.

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing
- Checking wiring and terminals Checking Wiring and Terminals.

Continue - FAULT FOUND

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for short-circuits
Measure the resistance between the fuse holder secondary side (left) and ground.
The ohmmeter should indicate an open-circuit.
If the value is correct, replace the fuse (NOTE! The fault could be intermittent).
If the ohmmeter displays a fault (short-circuit), fault-trace all affected relay circuits for a short-circuit to ground.

Hint: The relay circuits affected are from relays 2/111, 2/112, 2/113, 2/114, 2/115, 2/56, 2/59 and 2/67.

Remove one relay at a time and measure resistance to ground from terminal #5 and #3 on the relay base to determine which loop the fault is in.

Other information
- To expose the integrated relay / fusebox in the cargo compartment, see Relay/fuse box cargo compartment/Rear electronic module (REM), replacing Relay/Fusebox Cargo Compartment/Rear Electronic Module (REM), Replacing
