Capacitance Too Low

Capacitance too low. Intermittent fault

Intermittent fault

- Ignition off.

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner. This could deploy the seat belt tensioner!

Caution! Do not touch the terminal pins in the SRS control module. There is a risk of static discharge. This could damage the SRS control module.

Check the connectors for the SRS module and seat belt tensioner. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults. Check for loose connections. See Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Check the female and male parts of the connectors for the SRS control module and the seat belt tensioner. The cable terminals must not be damaged or pressed back.

Caution! For V70 2000- with model year 2000 and 2001:- If diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-0083 for the right seat belt tensioner is registered, follow fault-tracing for the centre seat belt tensioner (SRS-007B).- If diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-007B for the centre seat belt tensioner is registered, follow fault-tracing for the right seat belt tensioner (SRS-0083).

Check the cable between the SRS control module and the terminal on the seat belt tensioner connector according to the following:

for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-0063,
terminals #5A(5), #6A(6) of the front left seat belt tensioner and connector terminals #1, #3.

for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-006B,
terminals #5C(1), #6C(2) of the front right seat belt tensioner and connector terminals #1, #3.

for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-0073,
terminals #16A(16), #15A(15) of the rear left seat belt tensioner and connector terminals #1, #3.

for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-007B,
terminals #17A(17), #18A(18) of the centre rear seat belt tensioner and connector terminals #1, #3.

for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-0083,
terminals #16C(12), #15C(11) of the rear right seat belt tensioner and connector terminals #1, #3.
for an intermittent open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.

Hint: Check the integrated capacitor in the igniter connector: Measure the resistance.
With the ignition off, connect the test instrument probes between terminals #1 and #3 on the connector for the driver's airbag. The ohmmeter reading should rise rapidly to infinity.
Reverse the position of the ohmmeter positive and negative test probes. Connect them to the connector as in the previous measurement. The ohmmeter reading should drop rapidly to approximately 0 ohms and then increase to infinity.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access and replace the SRS control module and connector, see Control module SRS (supplemental restraint system), replacing Service and Repair.
- To replace the seat belt tensioner, see Seat belts, replacing Seat Belts, Replacing.
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box, Supplemental Restraint System Module (SRS).
- With the ignition off and the seat belt tensioner connector disconnected, the resistance between the seat belt tensioner connector terminals #1 and #3 (SRS control module side) should be approximately 22 kohms.

If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
