Communication Fault
Communication fault
Checking the component
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the 10-pin connector from the occupant weight sensor (OWS)
- Disconnect the connector from the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
Caution! Do not touch the terminal pins in the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the occupant weight sensor (OWS). There is a risk of static discharge. This could damage the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the occupant weight sensor (OWS).
Check the connectors for the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the occupant weight sensor (OWS). Check for damage to pins and terminals in the connectors. Check for contact resistance.
Also check the other connectors that connect the communication cable between the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the occupant weight sensor (OWS).
Remedy as necessary.
Check the communication cable (LIN-bus) between the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the 10-pin connector for the occupant weight sensor (OWS). Check for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #57 and the 10-pin connector for occupant weight sensor (OWS) terminal #10.
Remedy as necessary.
Replace the pressure sensor and the occupant weight sensor module (OWS) if no fault is detected. The pressure sensor and occupant weight sensor (OWS) module are included in the occupant weight sensor (OWS) system.
Note! After replacing the pressure sensor and the occupant weight sensor (OWS) module in the occupant weight sensor (OWS) system, the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) must be configured. This is done by storing the ID number for the occupant weight sensor (OWS).The occupant weight sensor (OWS) must also be calibrated.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Connect the battery negative lead.
Warning! There must not be anyone inside the passenger compartment when the battery is connected.
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
The fault is no longer present if the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) status is intermittent.
Is the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) intermittent?

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
