1 - Checking the component

2 - Checking the wiring and terminals

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the component

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnically airbag. This could deploy the airbag!

- Ignition off, wait for 15 seconds.
- Disconnect the connector from the front left-hand side airbag.
- Attach a special tool to the connector (to the ignition cable). To carry out this procedure, use: 951 1506 Test dummy 951 1506 Test Dummy

Note! The special tool must be checked and fault-free. If the special tool is faulty, the diagnostic readings will be incorrect. This will make fault-tracing harder.

- Switch on the ignition. Wait 10 seconds.
Read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.
- If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is permanent: Select alternative 1.
- If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is intermittent: Select alternative 2.

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnically airbag. This could deploy the airbag!

- Ignition off, wait for 15 seconds.
- Disconnect the connector for Supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
- Disconnect the connector from the front left-hand side airbag.
Check connectors for damage to pins and connections.
Also check other connectors and connections that connect cables between Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the airbag.
Check the wiring in the circuit for short-circuits to other cables in the circuit. Resistance readings in the connector should display infinite resistance.
Take readings between:
- The connector to the side impact protection (SIPS) bag left-hand front terminals #1 and #2.
Remedy as necessary.
