Fault-tracing

Fault-tracing information
A message (ID number) is sent out on the CAN network at regular intervals from the Central electronic module (CEM). Other control modules listen for this message, typically at the following occasions:
- When the control module has no power.
- After downloading the software.
- Certain control modules listen for the message each time the ignition is switched off.
This diagnostic trouble code indicates that the control module has not received any identity number, or that the expected number is not correct. The DTC is generated if the control module has not received the correct ID number within 7 seconds, from being supplied with power.
A possible cause of the fault is that a used control module has been installed in the car. Remedy the fault by reloading the software.
In some cases, the DTC can also be generated due to an open-circuit or other interference on the CAN wiring between the control module and the Central electronic module (CEM). These types of faults must, however, be first detected by other DTCs. Fault trace starting from these DTCs.
