Checking other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

- Ignition on.
The diagnostic trouble code has been stored due to the Engine control module (ECM) having registered deviations of components or functions and has been forced to reconfigure the system with replacement values which has resulted in the vehicle's driveability being affected negatively. It is probable that diagnostic trouble codes for failing components and/or functions also are stored in Engine control module (ECM). These diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) must be fault-traced and any faults remedied first.
Check if other diagnostic trouble codes are stored in Engine control module (ECM).
- Ignition on.
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Are other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the engine control module (ECM)?

Yes - DONE

No - Checking the ranking values for other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

Checking the ranking values for other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

- Ignition on or engine running.
Activate the tool for reading off the ranking values by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.
Check ranking values for other diagnostic trouble codes in Engine control module (ECM).
The diagnostic trouble code has been stored due to the Engine control module (ECM) having registered deviations of components or functions and has been forced to reconfigure the system with replacement values which has resulted in the vehicle's driveability being affected negatively. A replacement value for a diagnostic function is activated when the ranking value for the diagnostic function exceeds a certain value, normally 128.
The ranking value itself is a counter that indicates how close to storing a diagnostic trouble code the system considers itself to be for each diagnostic function, in relation to component or function. The counter counts upwards when the fault is active and downwards when the fault is not active. For certain functions the diagnostic trouble code is generated at the same time as the replacement value is activated, that is, at ranking value 128, but for other functions the counter goes on to 255 before the diagnostic trouble code is generated.
If the ranking value for relevant diagnostic trouble codes is 128 or higher, then troubleshooting shall be performed on these diagnostic trouble codes as if the diagnostic trouble code was stored in Engine control module (ECM).

Hint: Obtain the fault-tracing manually.

The ranking value consists of two values:
- Worst shows highest ranking value for the diagnostic function after erasing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) or after the Engine control module (ECM) was rendered powerless.
- Latestshows present ranking value for the diagnostic function.

Hint: The updating rate for Worst and Latest are different depending on diagnostic function.

Note! The updating rate for Worst and Latest may for certain diagnostic functions be as slow as once in 10 seconds.

Hint: A high value for "Worst" and a low value for "Latest" indicates an intermittent fault or that the fault is not currently active.

Note the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and high ranking values.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition on or engine running
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to activate the tool for reading off the ranking values.
Check the read off ranking values against previous readings. Check that "Latest" is now lower.
A lower ranking value indicates that the fault has been remedied. The same or a higher value indicates that the fault remains.

Do the ranking values indicate that the fault has been remedied?
