Checking the status
- Make sure that the Engine control module (ECM) has the latest software.
- Check current status of the trouble code by permitting a run of the control module's internal test for the trouble code.
Hint: Any special conditions for the test to be run are described in the trouble code information.
When the control module's test for the trouble code is completed, the current status is shown.
Read off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) status.

Replacing the component
The engine control module (ECM) has registered an internal fault.
If the fault is intermittent, it has been registered previously but is no longer present. Intermittent faults can be caused by interference at start up of the engine control module (ECM) or may be a different type of fault which occurs on different occasions. The fault is evaluated depending on how it occurs. Replace the engine control module (ECM) if the fault recurs.
Replace the engine control module (ECM) in the event of a permanent fault.
Remedy as necessary.
