Fault-Tracing Information

Fault-tracing

Fault-tracing information

Note! The diagnostic trouble code may have been caused by the wheel radius not matching with the radius that is programmed in the vehicle's configuration file.

If needed, check the programmed value in the central electronic module (CEM).

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the function

Warning! Ensure that the vehicle is safely raised. Check that no objects are caught in the tire treads.

Caution! On vehicles with four-wheel-drive, the tests should be carried out with the vehicle raised so that all four wheels can rotate freely with attachments far out on the link arms so that the drive shafts are not damaged.

Note! If the vehicle has TRACS or TC (STC, DSTC), this function must be disabled. This is carried out by removing the fuse for the brake system pump motor in the engine compartment relay and fusebox. Note that this will generate diagnostic trouble codes in the brake control module (BCM). These diagnostic trouble codes must be erased before the vehicle is returned to the customer.

- Raise the vehicle so that the drive wheels can rotate freely.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
- Shift the gear selector to position D so that the drive wheels begin to rotate.

Note! Ensure that the wheels are not rotating when the gear selector is moved.

Read off the transmission output speed.
Check that the transmission speed is updated.
If the transmission input speed updates correctly it means that the fault was present previously but is not active now. There is an intermittent fault.
If the transmission input speed does not update correctly it means that the fault is permanent.

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Checking the wiring and sensors

- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the transmission connector.
- Transmission control module (TCM) disconnected.
Check connector B (22-pin) for the transmission control module (TCM). Check for damaged or pressed in pins. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Hint: Check the transmission speed sensor. See: Checking internal components of the transmission, B6324S5, TF-80SC, B6324S5, TF-80SC AWD Checking Internal Components Of The Transmission

If a faulty value is measured in the test above, open the control system for the transmission and fault trace the wiring and components.
If the wiring is faulty, replace the cable harness.
If the sensor is faulty, replace the transmission.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Raise the vehicle so that the drive wheels hang freely.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
- Shift the gear selector to position D so that the drive wheels begin to rotate.

Note! Ensure that the wheels are not rotating when the gear selector is moved.

- Read off the transmission output speed.
Check that the transmission speed is updated.

Note! Diagnostic trouble codes may be stored in the brake control module (BCM) when the back wheels are stationary and the front wheels rotate.

Resetting counter oil

Resetting the "Transmission fluid change" counter

Checking the function

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for fluid quality that counts the number of times the transmission is subjected to too hard a load or too high an ambient temperature. If the counter is not reset during draining/replacement, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code will be set under the wrong conditions. Thus, it is important that the counter for transmission fluid change be reset.

Note! This only applies when the transmission oil is changed and when the oil is changed during repairs to the transmission's temperature sensor.

- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the counter.
