Front Passenger's Airbag Replacement

NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/ Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

Removal

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Remove the glove box Glove Box Removal / Installation.

3. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 4P connector (A) from the front passenger's airbag inflator, then remove the three nuts (B).





4. Remove the upper dashboard panel/front passenger's airbag assembly Upper Dashboard Panel Removal / Installation.

If you are replacing a deployed airbag, install a new airbag and a new upper dashboard panel Upper Dashboard Panel Removal / Installation.

5. Cut the four parts (A) of the upper dashboard panel (B) as shown, and remove the front passenger's airbag.

NOTE:

- Always replace the upper dashboard panel whenever you remove the airbag from the panel.
- Replace the airbag if the airbag mounting hooks or its housing is damaged.






Installation

1. Insert the hooks (A) of the front passenger's airbag housing into the new upper dashboard panel, then insert the other hooks (B) into the panel.

NOTE:

- Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the upper dashboard panel.
- Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the upper dashboard panel is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
- Do not use tools when detaching the front passenger's airbag in order to protect it.





2. Reinstall the upper dashboard panel/front passenger's airbag assembly Upper Dashboard Panel Removal / Installation.

3. Install the three new mounting nuts (A) to secure the airbag.





4. Reconnect the dashboard wire harness 4P connector (B) to the front passenger's airbag connector.

5. Reinstall the glove box Glove Box Removal / Installation.

6. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.

7. Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

8. After installing the front passenger's airbag, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then go off.
