Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Rear Bumper Removal/Installation

NOTE:

- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the rear bumper.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to scratch the rear bumper or the body.
- When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.

1. Remove the caps (A). Remove the clips (B), screws (C, D), and bolts (E) securing the rear bumper (F).

NOTE: To release the clips, pry up on the center pin at the notch (G).

2. Pull out the rear bumper (A) at both wheel arch areas to release it from the hooks (B) on both side spacers (C).

3. With the help of an assistant, pull out both sides of the rear bumper (A) to release the hooks (B) on both rear spacers (C).

4. With the help of an assistant, pull out the rear bumper (A) to release the hooks (B) on both upper brackets (C).

5. If necessary, release the hooks (A) and the posts (B), then remove the rear bumper absorber (C) from the rear bumper beam (D).

6. Install the bumper in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Make sure the rear bumper engages the hooks (of both side spacers and both rear spacers) on each side securely.
- Push the clips, the hooks, and the posts into place securely.
