Shift Cable: Service and Repair
NOTE:^ Do not bend or kink selector lever cable; grease cable eye and cable ends lightly before installing.
^ The selector lever cable can be most easily removed when the selector lever is in position "P".
REMOVAL
- Remove shield (below selector mechanism) for exhaust system.
- Remove cover
- Release snap lock of cover by pressing in direction of arrow -A-, refer to Disassembly/Assembly. Service and Repair
- Release locking clip by pressing together two ends and pull selector lever cable off selector lever.
- Remove locking plate for selector lever cable at mounting bracket by pulling down.
- Install with angled side to rear and into groove at selector lever cable, refer to Fig. 1 below.
- Pull selector lever cable out of mounting bracket.
- Remove shield for selector lever cable, -B-.
- Press retaining clip off lever of selector shaft, -C-.
- Press ball socket of selector lever cable off lever of selector shaft.
- Remove mounting bracket from transmission, -D-.
- Remove selector lever cable from mounting bracket, item -E-, if necessary.
INSTALLATION
- Selector lever and lever of selector shaft in position "P" (park lock must engage)
- Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
- Grease the cable eye and ball socket of the selector lever cable lightly.
- Check selector lever cable and adjust.
- Tighten Components to:
- Selector lever cable to mounting bracket: 12 Nm (9 ft lb)
- Mounting bracket to right transmission support: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
- Shield to transmission, 8 mm: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
