Right Flange Shaft
• Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
Removing
• Transmission installed.
- Remove the right drive axle heat shield.
- Remove right drive axle from transmission flange and tie up.
- Place (V.A.G 1782) beneath transmission.
- Remove the flange shaft by placing a chisel or spacer piece - A - under the flange shaft and by turning bolt - B -.
• If difficult to remove, rotate the flange shaft and install the bolt into the opposite threaded hole for removing the flange shaft.
- Always replace the flange shaft circlip.
- Clamp the flange shaft in a vise with jaw protectors. Remove the old circlip from the groove in the flange shaft using the new circlip - A -.
Installing
- Clean flange shaft and shaft seal.
- If the shaft seal is damaged, it must be replaced. Refer to => [ Right Flange Shaft Seal ] Right Flange Shaft Seal.
- Fill the space between the sealing- and dust lip half way with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Insert flange shaft by hand into front final drive splines until splines lock properly into place.
- Push the flange shaft all the way in either by hand or using the drift (VW 295).
• The locking ring must lock onto the flange shaft.
- Install right drive axle.
- Install the drive axle heat shield.
- Check and adjust axle oil level in transmission. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking and Topping Off ] Transmission Fluid, Checking and Topping Off.
