Front Passenger Airbag


Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

Follow the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.





1 Front Passenger Airbag Unit

Removing


The front passenger airbag and the nuts used to attach it were changed in September 2008.

Old front passenger airbags must be installed using the old nuts and new front passenger airbags must be installed using the new nuts.

To find out if the vehicle has a new or an old front passenger airbag, read the part number on the module and then refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition off.

- Remove glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

- Disconnect airbag unit connector - 3 -.

Only front passenger airbag with a plastic housing (introduced in January 2009):

- Disconnect the ground wire on the front passenger airbag (not illustrated).

All:


Connector - 12 - on passenger airbag unit must not be disconnected under any circumstances.

Nut - 4 - must not be loosened under any circumstances.

- Remove nuts - 2 - (quantity: 4).

- Remove airbag unit - 1 - downward.

- Place airbag unit - 1 - so padding faces upward.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:


The front passenger airbag and the nuts used to attach it were changed in September 2008.

Old front passenger airbags must be installed using the old nuts and new front passenger airbags must be installed using the new nuts.

To find out if the vehicle has a new or an old front passenger airbag, read the part number on the module and then refer to the => Electronic Parts Catalog.

- Replace airbag securing components after a deployment:

Instrument panel with airbag guide - 7 -=> [ (Item 7) Instrument Panel ] and - 6 -=> [ (Item 6) Airbag Guide ]. screw - 11 -=> [ (Item 11) Screws ]. nut - 2 -=> [ (Item 2) ]. left retainer - 5 -=> [ (Item 5) Left Retainer ]. right retainer - 10 -=> [ (Item 10) Right Retainer ].

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.

Ensure wires are not pinched.


Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.

2 Nuts


The front passenger airbag and the nuts used to attach it were changed in September 2008.

Old front passenger airbags must be installed using the old nuts and new front passenger airbags must be installed using the new nuts.

To find out if the vehicle has a new or an old front passenger airbag, read the part number on the module and then refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

Replace

9 Nm

3 Airbag Unit Connector

4 Nut


Nut - 4 - on passenger airbag unit must not be loosened under any circumstances.

5 Left Retainer

Always replace after airbag has deployed.

Removing

- Remove passengers airbag unit.

- Remove bolts - 11 - (quantity: 2).

- Remove left bracket - 5 -.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Riveted to instrument panel

Cannot be replaced separately

Must be replaced with instrument panel after airbag deployment

7 Instrument Panel

8 Airbag Unit Support

Bolted with central tube => [ (Item 7) Airbag Unit Support ] Central Tube

9 Central Tube

10 Right Retainer

Always replace after airbag has deployed.

Removing

- Remove passengers airbag unit.

- Remove bolts - 11 - (quantity: 2).

- Remove right bracket.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

11 Screws

4 Nm

Quantity: 4

Always replace after airbag has deployed.

12 Connector


Connector - 12 - on passenger airbag unit must not be disconnected under any circumstances.
