Dryer Cartridge, Modine Condenser

Dryer Cartridge, Modine Condenser

The reservoir may be attached to or integrated in the condenser, depending on the version of the condenser. Replace an attached reservoir. Refer to => [ Fluid Reservoir ] Fluid Reservoir.

There are different condenser versions and the dryer cartridge installed inside them. Pay attention to the correct allocation.

Removing

- Switch off ignition.

- Remove the front bumper.

- Discharge refrigerant circuit.

- Remove the adhesive sticker from the cap - 1 -.

Depending on the version of the vehicle (of the front end module) it may also be necessary to loosen the condenser from the front end module in order to remove and install the dryer cartridge. Refer to => [ Condenser ] Condenser.

- Remove the cap - 1 -.

- Push the cap - 1 - into the reservoir.

Refrigerant must be extracted from refrigerant circuit before removing the cap - 1 -. If the Seeger ring - arrow - and the cap - 1 - are not removed within 10 minutes after extraction, pressure may build up in refrigerant circuit by renewed evaporation. Extract refrigerant once more.

- Check the refrigerant circuit pressure using, for example, a pressure gauge from the A/C Service Station.

Only remove Seeger ring - arrow - when pressure in refrigerant circuit is the same or less than the ambient pressure.

- Remove the Seeger ring - arrow - and pull the cap - 1 - off the condenser - 2 - using an M12. screw.

- Remove the dryer cartridge using a commercially available pick-up tool - in direction of arrow - from the condenser.

- Make a welding wire ( 2 mm) to the following dimensions.

a 380 mm
b maximum 7 mm
c maximum 6 mm

Hook the welding wire to the strainer exactly as illustrated to prevent damaging the condenser.

- Carefully remove the filter (strainer) - 2 - from the condenser with the welding wire - 1 -.

Seal the open connection on the condenser with the cap - A - to prevent dirt and moisture from getting in.

Installing

Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:

Check the reservoir on the condenser - 2 - above the opening for dirt or damage to the sealing surfaces.

Replace the cap - 1 - and its seal, the dryer cartridge and the filter (strainer).

Coat the seal on the cap - 1 - lightly with refrigerant before installing. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings.

Make sure the seal fits correctly inside the cap - 1 -.

Keep the dryer cartridge sealed in its air-tight package as long as possible. Open the package just before installing the dryer cartridge into the condenser. The dryer cartridge absorbs moisture in a very short time and become unusable.

- Install the filter (with the strainer) - 2 - with the correct side into the condenser reservoir.

- Remove the dryer cartridge from its original package.

- Insert the dryer cartridge into the condenser reservoir.

- Install the cap - 1 -.

- Install the Seeger ring - arrow -.

- Install the cap - 1 -.

- Install remaining components.

- Discharge and fill the refrigerant circuit.

- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Refer to=> [ A/C System, Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] Procedures.

Note the information regarding operating the A/C system after filling.
