Rear Final Drive 01R (01AA,01EA,02XA,0A3A,01VA,09EA,09LA Transmission) Transmission






Flange Shaft Seals

The seals can only be replaced when the rear final drive is removed.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Driver (2062)

Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with Universal Transmission Support (V.A.G 1359/2)

Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

Follow the general repair instructions, refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.

Remove rear final drive, refer to => [ Rear Final Drive ] Rear Final Drive.

All illustrations show the left side of the rear final drive. Removing and installing the flange shaft and seal on the right side is identical.

- Place the (V.A.G 1306) underneath.

- Remove the flange shaft bolt. While doing this, install the two bolts into the flange counterhold the flange shaft using a tire iron.





- Remove the flange shaft.

- If equipped, pry out the dust ring with a screwdriver.





The dust ring will get damaged when being removed and must be replaced.

- Pry out the seal.





Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

- Coat the outer circumference of the seal with gear oil.

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Install the new seal all the way in without tilting it.





- Install the new dust ring - arrow -, if equipped.





- Install the flange shaft.

- Install and tighten the flange shaft bolt - 8 - => [ Hex Socket Bolt ] Differential Overview.





- Install rear final drive => [ Installing ] Rear Final Drive.

- Check the gear oil in the rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive Gear Oil, Checking ] Service and Repair.
