Selector Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Sleeve (VW 423)

Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80 - 200) for vehicles from 11.09

Pulling Hook (T20143)

Procedure

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Flange Shaft and Seals on Transmission Overview ] Flange Shaft and Seals on Transmission Overview.

- Selector mechanism through 11.09: Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

- Selector mechanism from 11.09: Remove the selector lever cable - 1 - from the transmission selector lever using (80 - 200).






Ignore - 2 -.

- Remove nut - arrow -.






- Carefully pry the lever - A - off the selector shaft.

- Pry the seal out using the (T20143/1).






- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new shaft seal with oil.

- Fill the space between the sealing- and dust lip - arrow - half way with sealing grease; sealing grease, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).






- Install the shaft seal all the way using the (VW 423) , do not tilt it while doing this.






Closed side of shaft seal - arrow - faces toward outside.

- Install the transmission selector lever on the selector shaft and tighten it - arrow -.






The transmission selector lever only fits to the splines in one position.

- Selector mechanism through 11.09: Install the selector lever cable, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable and adjust it => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting.

- Selector mechanism from 11.09: Press the selector lever cable onto the transmission selector lever and then adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting.
