Glove Compartment

Removing

On vehicles with the front passenger airbag -off- key switch (E224) , follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

- Turn on the ignition.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery.

- Vehicles with a storage compartment inside the glove compartment: Release the tabs on the left and right sides with a screwdriver - arrow - and then remove the storage compartment from the glove compartment.






- Vehicles with a CD player: remove the CD player.

- Depending on equipment level or the country: remove the screw - 1 - straight up.






- If equipped with an impact bar: remove the bolt - 2 -.

- Remove the side cover on the passenger side instrument panel. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Side Cover ] Instrument Panel Side Cover.






- Open the glove compartment cover and remove the screws - arrows -.

The number of bolts depends on the version.

Before handling the pyrotechnic components and belt tensioner units (for example, disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove the glove compartment far enough so the electrical harness connector on the central connector can be disconnected.

Installing

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Press the electrical connector together until it engages audibly.

- Switch the ignition on.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
