Four-Way Lumbar Support

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove the front seat:

Standard seat and sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.

Standard and sport power seat, comfort seat and super sport seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seats, Installing on the ] Front Seats, Installing on the Fixture For Seat Repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove backrest panel:

Two section backrest cover. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover (Section Two) ] Backrest Cover (Section Two).

One section backrest cover. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover (Section One) ] Backrest Cover (Section One).

- Remove the backrest frame trim. Refer to => [ Backrest Frame Trim ] Backrest Frame Trim.

- Remove headrests. Refer to:

- Remove the cover with the upholstery:

Standard seat and sport seat (manual or power) and comfort seat, refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Padding ] Backrest Cover and Padding.

Super sport seat, refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Padding, Super Sport Seat ] Backrest Cover and Padding, Super Sport Seat.

- Separate the Velcro(R) fastener - 3 - between the system - 2 - and the upholstery.






It requires relatively high amount of force to separate the Velcro(R) fastener.

Lay plastic film between the seat pan cover and the backrest frame to protect against metal shavings.






Risk of injury!

Wear protective eyewear.

- Drill out rivet - 3 -.

- Disconnect the connectors - 1 - and - 2 - from the seat forward/back adjustment motor and height adjustment motor for four-way lumbar support.

- Disengage the four-way lumbar support - 2 - on the backrest frame - 1 -.






- Remove the four-way lumbar support from the backrest frame.

- Disengage system - 2 - at four-way lumbar support - 1 - if necessary - arrows -.






Installing

- Engage system - 2 - at four-way lumbar support - 1 - if necessary - arrows -.

- Lay plastic film - 1 - over the Velcro(R) strips - 2 - on the system - 2 -.






- Secure plastic film to the system - 2 -.

- Make sure the lumbar support is attached to the system - 2 - using an assembly fastener - 4 - or a suitable pin.

- Make sure both clips for the four-way lumbar support - 2 - are installed in the backrest frame - 1 -.






- Install the four-way lumbar support to the backrest frame.

- Before securing rivet - 4 -, a plastic washer - 1 - must be placed between lumbar support - 2 - and backrest frame - 3 -.






- Rivet the four-way lumbar support to the backrest frame.

- Stretch the upholstery with cover over the backrest frame.

- Remove the plastic film between the system and the upholstery.

- Press the system Velcro(R) fastener onto the upholstery.

- Connect the connectors to the lumbar support curvature and height adjustment motors.

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
