Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Non-Trouble Code Procedures

- Tools Required
- J 24460-01 Cooling System Tester
- J 24460-92 Cooling System Tester Adapter

Caution: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.

1. Remove the surge tank cap.

2. Install the J24460-01 and J24460-92to the surge tank.

Notice: Do not use pressure greater than 138 kPa (20 psi) to test the radiator. Damage to the radiator will result if a higher pressure is used.

3. Apply normal system operating pressure.
4. The needle on the tester gauge should remain steady for several minutes, otherwise there is a leak.
5. Examine all cooling system connections and components, including the radiator, surge tank, and the heater core for leaking coolant.
6. Repair any coolant leak as required.
