Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant Pump Mounting:






REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain and recover cooling system. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
2. Remove serpentine belt.
3. Remove coolant pump pulley bolts.
4. Remove coolant pump pulley and coolant pump then clean coolant pump mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION
1. Coat bolt threads with pipe sealant GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent.
2. Install new gasket and coolant pump.
3. Install attaching bolts and torque to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.)
4. Install coolant pump pulley and torque bolts to 21 Nm (15 lb. ft.).
5. Install serpentine belt.
6. Refill coolant. Refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
7. Connect negative battery cable and torque bolts to 15 Nm ( 11 ft.lb. ). Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Service and Repair / Idle Learn Procedure. Service and Repair
8. Inspect for leaks.
