Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant from the air conditioning (A/C) system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
2. Remove the rear evaporator line assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Rear Tube Replacement (Air Conditioning Evaporator Rear Tube Replacement).




3. Remove the thermal expansion valve (TXV) to evaporator core mounting bolts.
4. Disconnect the TXV from the evaporator and remove from the vehicle.
5. Remove and discard the evaporator core seal washers.
6. Cap or tape off the evaporator core.

Installation Procedure

1. Remove the cap or tape from the evaporator core.
2. Install new seal washers to the evaporator core. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement (Sealing Washer Replacement).




3. Install the TXV to the evaporator core.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Install the TXV to evaporator core mounting bolts and tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb in).
5. Install the rear evaporator line assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Rear Tube Replacement (Air Conditioning Evaporator Rear Tube Replacement).
6. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
7. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A - Halogen Leak Detector.
