Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:

Caution:

Caution:
To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.





1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.

2. Thoroughly clean the area around the electronic brake control module (EBCM) of all dirt and debris.

3. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the rear brake pipe fittings (1) from the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV).

5. Cap the brake pipe fittings and plug the BPMV outlet ports to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

6. Disconnect the front brake pipe fittings (1) from the BPMV.

7. Cap the brake pipe fittings and plug the BPMV outlet ports to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

8. Disconnect the master cylinder brake pipe fittings (1) from the BPMV.

9. Cap the brake pipe fittings and plug the BPMV inlet ports to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.





10. Remove the BPMV nuts (1).





11. Remove the BPMV (1).





12. Remove the BPMV lower insulator (1).





13. Remove the BPMV insulators (1) and bushings (2).

14. Remove the EBCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement Service and Repair.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the EBCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement Service and Repair.

2. Install the BPMV insulators (1) and bushings (2).





3. Install the BPMV lower insulator (1).





Note:
Ensure the BPMV is fully seated in the lower insulator.

4. Install the BPMV (1).





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Install the BPMV nuts (1) and tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb in).

Note the brake pipe locations for proper installation.

6. Connect the master cylinder brake pipe fittings (1) to the BPMV and tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).

7. Connect the front brake pipe fittings (1) to the BPMV and tighten to 16 Nm (12 lb ft).

8. Connect the rear brake pipe fittings (1) to the BPMV and tighten to 16 Nm (12 lb ft).

9. Connect the EBCM electrical connector.

10. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure).

11. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.

12. Observe the brake pedal feel after performing the diagnostic system check. If the pedal now feels spongy, air may have been in the secondary hydraulic circuit of the brake modulator which may have been introduced into the primary circuit. If the pedal feels spongy, perform the Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed.
