Parking Brake Shoe Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning:
Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.
1. Fully release the parking brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
3. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
4. Rotate the brake rotor until the parking brake shoe adjuster access grommet (1) is in the 6 o'clock position.
5. Remove the parking brake shoe adjuster access grommet and rotate the adjuster wheel (1) to retract the parking brake shoe.
6. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
7. Grasp the parking brake shoe (1) near the adjuster and spread the parking brake shoe slightly to release it from the adjuster assembly.
8. Lift the parking brake shoe upward and release the shoe from the parking brake shoe retaining spring (2).
9. Clean the rear brake backing plate with denatured alcohol and allow to dry.
Installation Procedure
1. Apply a light coat of high temperature brake lubricant to the park brake shoe contact areas of the rear brake backing plate.
2. Grasp the parking brake shoe (1) near the adjuster and spread the parking brake shoe slightly to install on to the adjuster assembly.
3. Engage the parking brake shoe retaining spring (2) into the parking brake shoe channel.
4. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
5. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (9C3) Parking Brake Adjustment (9C3)Parking Brake Adjustment (9C1) Parking Brake Adjustment (9C1).
6. Install the parking brake shoe adjuster access grommet (1).
7. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
